Seniors raise money for breast cancer month

Residents  of Woodlands Senior Village Raise $655 for the fight against Breast Cancer

(Wheatfield, November 4, 2013)  Residents of The Woodlands Senior Village in Wheatfield donated $655 to the American Cancer Society by "dining for a cure".

October is nationally known as Breast Cancer Awareness month.  With that in mind, residents of The Woodlands Senior Village came up with a unique way to raise money in their community and procured a sizeable donation to fight breast cancer.  With the help of community manager Darrell Rodgers, a program was put in place for the entire month of October where residents could purchase tickets for a weekly drawing for gift cards to local restaurants.  Each week the restaurant domination increased.  Tickets were $1.00 each or 6/$5.00.  The restaurant gift cards were donated by Calamar Management Group, a division of Calamar.  The residents of Woodlands Senior Village set an ambitious goal to raise $500 for the month.

On November 4, 2013, Woodlands residents proudly presented JoAnna Jacob, Senior Representative of Community Engagement from the American Cancer Society with a check for $655 - well over their goal amount!  "Our residents were very enthusiastic and had a lot of fun with this "dining out for a cure" campaign.  We all know somebody who has been touched by cancer and were eager to help", said Community manager Darrell Rodgers.  "I am proud of our residents, their efforts and their compassion.  We hope to make it a yearly event."

The Woodlands Senior Village is a 55+ young, independent living community on Forest Parkway in Wheatfield, developed and operated by Calamar.  Both one and two bedrooms are offered in a quiet, country setting.
